Introducing Top Five Friday

I’ve been thinking about returning to regular lists of Top 10’s. It was a staple of my MySpace blogging days (RIP). However, I wasn’t shooting for any regularity, and merely posted whenever the mood struck. Now, I’d like to post every Friday.

In doing this, I am self-consciously riffing on Tim Ferriss’ Five Bullet Friday, which he sends out in e-mail form. Riffing is maybe too weak. I am straight up borrowing the idea and renaming it. Because I don’t think I can come up with 10 things every week, I’m going to call it Top Five Friday.

I’m also going to borrow category ideas from Ferriss (I don’t think he’ll mind). To give you an idea what it could look like, here’s a sampling of categories:

  • What I’m reading (obviously)
  • Tech tool I’ve been using
  • Quote I’ve been pondering
  • Beer I’ve tried and enjoyed recently
  • Person I’m studying (like via a book, not being a creeper)
  • Song I’m spinning on repeat
  • New purchase I’m glad I made
  • Trip I wish I could take
  • App that I’ve found useful
  • Article you should read
  • PDF I’ve found valuable
  • Album that shows up in my Heavy Rotation on Apple Music
  • Podcast I’ve subscribed to recently
  • YouTube video I found
  • Netflix show that is worth watching past 3 episodes
  • Prime show that is worth watching past 3 episodes
  • Recent Twitter, Instagram, or blog follow
  • Supplement I’ve started taking
  • Amazon deal I found
  • General life hacks
  • Etc.

As you can see, it’s a combination of things I’m enjoying and things I’ve found useful. I like to pass both kinds of recommendation to others. I also like the opportunity to promote good content and culture that’s available out there. This seemed like a great way to do that, so starting next week, we’ll get after it!
