SHIFT @ UCF Ephesians Bible Study Starts Tonight!

Just when you thought I might not blog again, I’m back. After spending June splitting the difference between work and rest (and so not doing either well), I took the better part of July off (minus auditing an RTS class, and then teacher training/orientation). I have been thinking through what re-booting the blog would look like and decided it was best to get the school year up and running before committing to anything.

So, here we are on the first Monday after Labor Day, which is when the real fall schedule gets its start. The armadillo saw his shadow on September 2nd, so it’s 8 more weeks of summer here in Florida but whatever. It’s actually our third weekly meeting of SHIFT, and probably our last one at the house. Next week, we’ll hopefully be back to meeting on campus. Campus by the way, is UCF campus. You know, the other national champion from last year’s NCAAF season?

SHIFT @ UCF is our registered student organization for UCF students that is aimed to help them grow into competent Christian adulthood. This primarily involves a weekly meeting for Bible study. But, because our network is wider than students that just come to the Bible study, or are even at UCF, we are developing lifelines this fall to mentor other students and hopefully have the margin to be there when a crisis comes calling.

Tonight though, we start working our way through Ephesians for our fall study. It’s not my first rodeo teaching Ephesians at SHIFT, but it’s our first time going through it in detail and doing inductive study together. I’m relying on Matthew Harmon’s Asking the Right Question to guide our discussions (thanks for the review copy Crossway!).

In general, I’ll do my own study each week ahead of time, but we’ll spend the bulk of our time asking questions, first aimed at understanding the passage better, and later at applying it. I may even blog from time to time about insights I pick up along the way in preparation for study. But for now, just a quick update to assure you that I do indeed have dozens of books to review, ministry updates to share, and a new Friday series that I am shamelessly ripping off from Tim Ferriss. Pray that our semester goes well, and that I’ll be able to get back in the writing habit that keeps my mind and heart clear of clutter!
